La palabra del día…
Today's word is dentista. This, as you can probably guess, means dentist. This week we have been doing occupation words, so if you are a regular listener, you will know that the ending of most occupation words changes, depending on whether you are talking about a man or a woman. Unfortunately, rules always have exceptions. Dentista is one of these exceptions. Dentista is the word for both male and female dentists, except for the fact that you change the word for ‘the’. El dentista for a male dentista, la dentista for a female one.
Did you know you could receive the word of the day into your email inbox? Every day you will receive the word of the day and our tip for its usage. You can get this free service by logging on to our website, scrolling to the bottom and filling in the short registration form.

La palabra del día…
Today's word is enfermera. This means nurse.
Occupation words that end in a do not change their ending for different genders. The only change in this case is that you say ‘el’ for male nurses and ‘la’ for female nurses. El and la are the words for the in Spanish. So, I’m a nurse, whether you are male or female is soy enfermera.
Don’t forget to fill out our survey, www.survey.es.tt. Thanks again.

Welcome to today’s Spanish Word of the Day podcast.
This podcast brings you a different word each day to improve your Spanish vocabulary. Read this show and check spellings on our website, which is www.wordoftheday.es.tt
Today's word is Abogado, which means barrister or lawyer. For example, soy abogado, which means I’m a lawyer.
With occupations, it is important to remember that when saying your occupation, in Spanish you do not say I’m a doctor; you simply say I’m doctor. So, we do not say soy UN abogado. We simply say Soy abogado.
Since this word is a noun, the ending changes if the word is talking about a man or woman. So in the masculine form, abogado is correct. But if you are talking about a female lawyer, you need to say abogada. So she is a lawyer translates to Ella es abogada.
